After successfully completing a building project in India in 2013, Swinburne Built Environment Dept. sent six carpentry students to Cambodia in February 2014 to build the arts centre project established by Mayibuye Cambodia.

The land in Kampot Province has been donated by the Chumkriel Language School and the students, led by Swinburne Outbound Projects Manager for the Built Environment, Jon Wallace, worked alongside a local builder and his tradespeople with a view to exchanging practices.

The aim of the trip is to give the apprentices a global experience and make a difference in a community contrasting to their own, whilst learning new skills.

This project is advantageous in the sense that these young men returned home with a greater appreciation of the Australian building industry as well as being better equipped to work in their trade.
