Three weeks ago, I met a highly motivated young woman, Zoe Condliffe, who coordinates MAYIBUYE CAMBODIA - an organisation dedicated to bringing art and culture back to Cambodia.
Zoe is currently in the process of raising money to build an arts/dance studio as a part of Chumkriel Language School in Kampot Province. The aim of PROJECT MAYIBUYE CAMBODIA is to assist in bringing back Cambodia’s lost culture as a result of the invasion of the Khmer Rouge. MAYIBUYE CAMBODIA runs programs for over 400 children. Currently, they operate from one room and at each class this room is bursting with at least 50 young kids eager to attend! To assist with construction, Swinburne University has contributed
$30 000 as well as six trades students who will be travelling to Kampot in early February, 2014, to aid this rebuilding project.
To help raise the profile of this organisation as well as documenting the building process, the CAMBODIAN BROADCASTING NETWORK will be filming there for a few weeks in late February 2014. Yes folks, that's how quickly construction gets underway in Cambodia!
